Our Offering for Schools

At Harbour Books, we are incredibly proud of the work we do in our community and with our local schools. Helping children foster a love of reading is one of the great joys of bookselling, so making sure we can support teachers and schools is of the utmost importance to us.

20% DISCOUNT

When ordering through us, teachers and schools will receive 20% off their order total and when ordering 10+ books – these do not have to be 10 of the same title!

INDIVIDUALLY CURATED BOOKFAIRS

We can come into your school to run a pop up bookshop and we will hand select the books we bring to fit certain areas of focus. Or we can bring an array of titles that reflect the selection we have in the shop.

BESPOKE READING LISTS

We also have themed reading lists around Inclusion and Diversity and Reading Around The Curriculum that we update constantly. We can curate bespoke reading lists by topic, age or interest with the latest titles for more targeted reading.

STORYTELLING VISITS

We have loved welcoming children into the shop to come and listen to some stories, and we have also visited some local schools for storytelling. We are also happy to arrange for groups of teachers to come and visit the shop, so we can recommend our current favourite kids titles, as well as titles that cover specific areas of focus.

WORKSHOP AND TEACHERS’ EVENINGS

We can come into your schools to talk to parents, grandparents and carers about reading for pleasure with the children. We also host Teachers’ Book Briefings, where teachers are invited to visit the shop after hours and hear from some of our favourite publishers about what they can offer for schools.

WORLD BOOK DAY

Our offering for WBD is a little different – The Whitstable Book Drive. In March 2023, we launched the Whitstable Book Drive – a Whitstable-wide initiative designed to provide every local child with a good quality free second-hand book. Without our partnerships with local schools, we would not have been able to collect anywhere near as many of the books we received, and we definitely would not have raised as much money without them encouraging their children to take part. For more up to date information on the book drive, there are details on how to take part details listed on the Whitstable Book Drive page.

This is just an outline of what we offer to schools that work with us currently; we are always open to new ideas and to hear input from teachers. If you are interested in getting involved as a partner school, or have any ideas related to our work with schools, please do email us and get in touch: [email protected].
